Classic Harbor LineClassic Harbor Line is the operating company of the Schooners Adirondack & Imagine and the Luxury Yacht Manhattan of Chelsea Piers. It has been running sightseeing trips on New York’s waters since 1999. We specialize in bringing beautiful, classic-style vessels to the New York City waterways and creating special and memorable excursions.
Our Crew, including all captains, mates, chefs, and on-land representatives at Classic Harbor Line, are what make the experience on our beautiful vessels truly magical. We have maintained a consistent history of not only operating with a professional staff, but also with warm and inviting hosts. You will, without a doubt, have fantastic views of the city and find the boats beautiful and comfortable, but what will surprise you and stay with you when you leave is the warm and special treatment you receive from our extraordinary team.
Our CaptainsAll of our captains are Coast Guard certified. The schooner captains all have a minimum 50-ton license and a sailing endorsement. The Manhattan’s captains all have a minimum 100-ton license. Our captains are also trained in first aid and CPR, and are registered in an ongoing drug-testing program. Perhaps of equal importance, we require that our captains have an appreciation for quality service and are extremely charming hosts.
All of the mates on both the Manhattan and the schooners undergo extensive safety and marine training. Most of the schooner mates also extensive sailing, racing and/or teaching experience on smaller sail vessels.
Our mates are widely remembered for their remarkable hospitality and personality which is consistently praised in our customer reviews. They love talking with our guests, getting to know where they are from, sharing information on the great city of New York, and conveying their love for classic-style vessels and the addictive mystique of being out on the water. If you are interested in joining our crew, please send a cover letter and resume to: employment@sail-nyc.com
Chef Wayne Chin leads the galley aboard the Yacht Manhattan. He is a native New Yorker who spent much of his childhood growing up in Jamaica, West Indies. Raised predominantly by his maternal grandparents, Wayne developed a knack for preparing classic Jamaican dishes. He relocated to New York City in 1986 and eventually found himself cooking regularly for friends and family. He loved it so much that he was inspired to make a living by it. He attended a culinary academy in Manhattan, developed a well-rounded repertoire of cuisine skills, and took his first culinary position with Tribeca’s modern Japanese restaurant, Megu. Wayne began cruising with Classic Harbor Line in 2008 to assist in preparing for our larger events aboard the Yacht Manhattan. His attention to detail and calm, warm personality was so loved by our captains and crew, that when our head chef position opened in late 2008, we were very eager to invite him aboard in a full-time capacity.
Our Food and Wine Consultant, Wendy Crispell, also works alongside Chef Wayne. Together they have developed a fresh set of menus, inspired by the “slow food” movement that incorporates a number of ingredients and foods prepared by local food purveyors, Chelsea patisseries, New York State farmers, cheese-makers and bakers. Wendy and Wayne also run a fantastic wine and hors d’oeuvres pairing event aboard the Yacht Manhattan that is not only delicious and different every week, but quite educational. Wendy’s “New York City Wine Tasting Cruise Series” was such a hit during its first season in 2008, that we have incorporated it into our future regular programming aboard the Manhattan.
There are a number of behind-the-scenes crew members at Classic Harbor Line. They are the team who answers the phones, plans your event, greets you on the pier, and is happy to tell everyone who asks about cool cruises and sails that we have to offer.
If you are interested in employment with Classic Harbor Line, we want to hear from you! We are always looking for experienced captains and mates with a strong background in hospitality and/or marine maintenance. Please feel free to forward a letter and resume to employment@sail-nyc.com.
