THE SCHOONERS ADIRONDACK & IMAGINE

These elegant, 80-foot, 1890’s-style pilot schooners are the wonders of New York Harbor. Schooner Adirondack has been sailing in the New York City Harbor since the fall of 1999, and Schooner Imagine (a close cousin of Adirondack) joined the fleet in the Spring of 2007. They have entertained thousands of NYC visitors and locals, and have attracted a large and growing number of passionate regulars who can’t stop coming back for more. Many New Yorkers consider multiple trips aboard the schooners to be a regular and highly anticipated part of their warm-weather seasons. The Schooner Adirondack and Schooner Imagine feature plenty of seating, teak decks and impressive mahogany trim. Guests always enjoy the friendliest and finest service, and are treated to complimentary beverages on all trips. Schooner Adirondack and Schooner Imagine are the fastest resident sail vessels in the New York Harbor. They held the record finishes in the Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race for 14 consecutive seasons (1994 - 2007).

The Schooner Adirondack and Schooner Imagine run a 6-month season from Chelsea Piers starting in early May and ending in late October.

“My family had a great outing on the Adirondack! Much nicer than going on a crowded sightseeing boat. The crew was fun and friendly. My 10-year-old daughter and her friend were entertained and informed on history and on the correct sailing lingo by the all girl crew...which they thought was awesome! Enjoyed having complimentary drinks and sailing around the area! Hopefully will go back and take my wife on a sunset date aboard their yacht!” (Day Sail)

The Schooner Specs

The Adirondack and Imagine, are gaff-rigged schooners with a wooden hull, and were completed by Scarano Boat Building in Albany, NY. Schooner Adirondack was built in 1994, while Schooner Imagine was built in 1997 and joined our fleet in 2007. They are Coast Guard certified for 49 guests. Their masts reach over 70 feet above deck and have just under 2000 square feet of sail area. They are 65 feet on deck, 80 feet overall, and their drafts are 8.5 feet. On a high wind day, it is not uncommon for them to reach 10 knots under sail. They are very lively and fast vessels, and all of their captains feel that they are an absolute dream to operate!

“This was one of the most incredible New York experiences I've ever had. I've lived here for almost 15 years and can't believe I haven't done this sooner! It's exciting and beautiful and one of the most fun things I've done in the city. I would strongly encourage anyone to take advantage of this opportunity, whether you're native New Yorker or someone visiting from out of town...I promise you, you won't regret it!” (Sunset Sail)
