Regulatory & Safety

Each vessel in the Classic Harbor Line fleet is annually inspected and re-certified as an ‘inspected vessel’ by the United States Coast Guard.  Each vessel is certified to carry a set number of passengers and a required number of crew plus a United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved licensed captain. To meet USCG specifications, each vessel has required life-saving and safety-related equipment, along with documented regular training of the crew to use that equipment.  Each CHL crew member and Captain are trained in fire-fighting, bilge system operation, man-over-board recovery, recovery of steerage, safe abandonment of ship and anchoring on a reoccurring basis.  Additionally, all captains and first mates are trained in First Aid & CPR.  Each Captain is additionally reviewed every 5 years for license renewal and medical certification. Sea time and a series of maritime exams are required for their licenses.

On inspected (or ‘certified’) vessels, passenger limits per boat take into account the size and design of the boat and have equipment (including lifejackets) that support that number. We hold very firmly to our certifiable limit and can ensure all of our programming is below the legal limit.

General information pertaining to boat inspections: If you are chartering a boat that is not ‘inspected’ by the USCG, the passenger limit is 6.  Anything more than 6 is considered “an illegal charter”.

If you have any safety or regulatory questions about Classic Harbor Line’s fleet or the industry, feel free to inquire.  [email protected]

Charter Locations

Manhattan: Chelsea Piers: Classic Harbor Line operates in the culturally enchanting neighborhood of Chelsea. Before or after your excursion with us, be sure to visit the many local art galleries, Hudson River Park, High Line Park, and Chelsea Market. Chelsea also offers a mix of hip modern architectural feats, classic brownstones, and industrial found spaces filled by couture designers and renowned NYC restaurants. Our vessels are docked at the Historical Chelsea Piers at Pier 62 (Directly across from West 23rd Street) which used to dock the famed White Star and Cunard lines and was the destination for the legendary Titanic.

North Cove Marina: Classic Harbor Line also operates out of North Cove Marina.  North Cove Marina is located in southern Manhattan in Battery Park City. The Marina is parallel to Fulton Street and The World Trade Center Memorial on the West Side Highway (West St.) The marina is not viewable from the West Side Hwy as it is surrounded by the Brookfield Place shopping center. You must walk around, under or through the shopping center to access the marina area.

Parking Information

Manhattan: Chelsea Piers: If you are planning to park at Chelsea Piers, the access road into Chelsea Piers’ parking lots for Pier 61, 60, and 59 is at West 24th street. It is accessible if you are west-bound on 23rd street (when you hit the West 23rd Street Park, you must take a right on 11th Ave., then take an immediate left onto West 24th Street). Alternatively, the access road is also accessible if you are south bound on the West Side Highway. Unfortunately, we do not issue vouchers for parking at Chelsea Piers.

North Cove Marina: The nearest parking service to the marina is the Brookfield Place Parking at 250 Vessey Street. The entrance to this is at 51 North End Avenue.  There are many parking garages in this area as well. We recommend finding a parking garage that works for you and securing that spot in advance. There is a wide range of pricing and often coupons available online.
